Kirby Discusses Plans for His Mamberamo River Exploration Party
Kirby often mailed us audio tapes rather than writing letters. This audio tape from Kirby discusses his upcoming trip up the Mamberamo River in Irian Jaya (New Guinea). He was leading an oil exploration party for Atlantic Richfield when he died in an accident on the river. This was his last tape and it shows his enthusiasm for adventure and risk taking. Also on the clip is Kathy thanking her Grandma and Grandpa Bay for some presents. The tape was made in October and he died November 20, 1974.
